"I overheard [the kids] talking about Coach Tim [...] how respected they felt by him and how kind he was to them. [...] I'm a firm believer that fun can be balanced with discipline. Thank you! Thank you!"

BEGINNER SUMMER PROGRAMS
The Beginner Summer Program is our entry-level offering for new students with no prior fencing experience. Students learn about the long history of swordsmanship and engage in a variety of tactical and physical games as they learn a new sport in a safe and fun environment.
The main objective of the program is to teach the basic skills of Olympic fencing: footwork, blade moves, and the foundations of strategic thinking. Following an introduction to all three disciplines of modern fencing (épée, foil, sabre); students will eventually focus on fencing with Olympic-style sabres. Throughout the program, students will experience the values of true sportsmanship and camaraderie. On the last day, students will fence an in-house tournament on fully equipped fencing strips with Olympic-standard electric scoring equipment.
The program runs from 9AM to 4PM every day. Participants will practice and learn for a total of 6 hours per day. They will have a one-hour lunch break to eat and relax. That’s what makes our summer programs the perfect way to start fencing!
Please note: recommended age of 8 years: Fencing is a challenging sport with rules that can be hard to understand and moves that can be difficult to execute for young children. We recommend children under the age of 8 develop their motor skills with age-appropriate workouts and join our program when they are ready. If there are special circumstances, we will consider 7-year-olds on an individual basis. Please contact us (zetafencing@gmail.com) before registering a student younger than 8.
Students may register for multiple weeks.
