"In a wild year of “not normal”, it meant so much to our fencer to have regular sessions at Zeta with his friends and coaches. The safety of the fencers and the staff came first, with appropriate adjustments being made along the way. After days of Zoom school and Zoom activities, the trips to Zeta provided a much-needed outlet for our fencer (and honestly, for our family, too, in getting out of the house with regularity). The fencers kept on fencing, increased their skill and stamina, and were able to maintain a very healthy and positive outlook. Without Zeta, I suspect it would have been a far more challenging year. It is simply the most fabulous experience and the students are taught far more than fencing: responsibility, accountability, tenacity and grace. They come out with far more grit than when they started."
… Where Fencers Become National Competitors
Zeta Fencing is the home of sabre fencing champions from the Greater Boston Area. Our coaches’ dedication and experience make the difference. So does our athletes’ hard work since it takes many hours of practice, patience, and strong work ethic to succeed in fencing. Winning competitions requires more than basic athletic training. Our competitive classes teach mental skills that go beyond the strip and make our fencers successful competitors in all aspects of life.
Our invitation-only competitive programs run for 10 months and require a fencer’s commitment for a full season. The programs include all aspects of training that competitive fencers need: conditioning, footwork, drills in a group setting, and many hours of bouting to gain fencing experience. All competitive level fencers are required to use their own equipment during practice and competition.
While age and fencing level are the main criteria for placing students in one of our competitive programs, admission to Zeta Fencing’s Junior Class is exclusively the Head Coach’s decision that cannot be overturned by students or parents.
Zeta Fencing is moving to 200 Homer Avenue in Ashland in late October.
This program is for youth competitors ages 13+ with regional and some national tournament experience. Students in this program are required to compete at the regional and national level for their age group and compete in the categories for which they are age or ratings eligible.
Group classes meet twice per week for 1.5 hours each. In addition, students participate in one bouting class every week. This schedule provides for 7 hours of fencing which includes athlete-focused instruction as well as supervised bouting at all skill levels.

All Junior Class fencers are required to take a minimum of 1 weekly individual lessons with their lesson coach. Individual lesson fees are extra and are paid directly to the lesson coach. The lesson schedule is created upon the receipt of a complete registration.
At the beginning of the season, students must create their individual competition schedules in consultation with their lesson coach, based on the club's recommended 2021/22 competition schedule.
