... Where Adults Discover a New Sport or Return to It

Fencing is truly a sport for all ages. If you have fenced before and would like to return to the sport in adulthood  - we have a class for you. If you just found out about fencing for the first time, or if you have a child who has discovered the sport and now you would like to try it yourself - we are happy to teach you! Whatever your reasons, it is never too late to start fencing. Our adult classes are for fencers ages 16+ (i.e. born in 2007 or earlier).

Adult classes are mixed by age and gender. Perhaps most importantly, adult fencers learn in a fun, safe, and supportive environment that balances conditioning, fitness, and learning fencing skills. Weekly classes lasts 90 minutes because fencers have to develop various, very different skill sets. In every class, students work on agility and fitness, footwork, bladework, and bouting strategies. Class size is limited to guarantee that every fencer receives the individual attention needed to master the complex sport of fencing. Adult fencers may fence at the recreational level or they may choose to progress to the competitive level, competing locally and nationally when they are ready to do so.

All classes are taught with “real,” Olympic-style fencing weapons and uniforms.

Adult Classes

We offer two levels of adult classes: one for Adult Beginners (students with little or no prior knowledge) and one for Adult Advanced fencers (who should have had about 6 months of prior fencing instruction). All adult fencers also have the option to take weekly private lessons. Upon completion of a registration form and class payment, enrolled students interested in private lessons should contact zetafencing@gmail.com about coaches' availability and scheduling.

Adult Beginner Classes

Classes follow a 7-week session schedule (dates listed below). Students borrow a complete set of personal fencing equipment for the duration of each session (fully refundable equipment deposit required). For safety reasons, students are required to wear clean fencing shoes, long loose-fitting sweat pants and a T-shirt during class. Please read our full guidelines here.

Beginning fencers will learn the fundamental skills of fencing involved in all three disciplines of fencing (épée, foil, sabre). They will focus on sabre. Each session consists of seven weekly classes.

Class Time: Saturday 11AM - 12:30PM

Class Fee per 7 - week session: $350

Equipment Deposit: $300 (cash or check only, fully refundable)

Discount: The first family member pays the full price; every additional family member receives second family member rate. If family members participate in programs with different fees, the higher-priced program has to be paid in full.
